JKN Digital first off the blocks for HP Scitex LX800

Almost a year to the week after they had their very first HP latex printer installed, nationwide digital print centre JKN Digital have become the first UK company to purchase and install the latest HP Scitex LX800 printer through leading large format reseller City & West End Solutions.

At 3.2m wide, the HP Scitex LX800 will be installed at their Preston site by the end of July 2010, joining their existing latex family of two LX6550 and two LX2550 printers.   Peter Nicholls, MD of JKN Digital was invited by CWE Solutions to the product launch event in Barcelona which was held prior to the FESPA show.  He was so impressed by the advancements and refinements HP had made, he placed an order immediately on his return.

Nicholls explains, “The functionality on the new and existing products provides us with the tools to add flexibility and speed that would increase our production output and service offering massively.  By having a machine in-house that can offer 3.2m wide, dual-roll printing and is able to print one-off jobs without de-webbing, means our ROI is realised a lot faster than some of the other printers we looked into.”

The new LX800 printer will replace one of JKN Digital’s existing LX6550 with the other LX6550 having the dual-roll retro-fitted by the end of the month as well.  Nicholls’ excellent relationship with City & West End Solutions has been built steadily over the years and all their HP printers have been purchased from them.

In addition to the new features, JKN Digital’s business has evolved with the advent of this greener technology; moving away from direct print and solvents and embracing benefits such as the lack of waste on rigid media, recyclability and excellent print quality on a massive range of media.

The HP Scitex LX800 uses water-based HP latex inks, producing prints that are odourless, eco-friendly and said to be scalable for printing graphics up to 3.2m (126in) in width, with production speeds of up to 88m2 per hour.

From an excellent start to 2010, Nicholls says, “Our aim is to continue to increase production but also push the business forward into market-sectors we previously didn’t have the flexibility to approach.”
